Harrowing & Rolling
We offer various harrowing and rolling services. We use spring tine grass harrows which are a really efficient way of grass harrowing and are better than chain harrows although, they still have their place in some circumstances. Our spring tine grass harrows are 4 meters in width but fold down to allow access through small gates into inaccessible fields and paddocks. We usually carry out rolling in the spring once the weather has started to dry up. We offer both types of roller – flat and ridged. Ridged or Cambridge rolls are for rolling newly seeded virgin ground. Flat ballasted rollers are for established grassland. We usually carry out paddock rolling after harrowing which helps push any stones back into the field that has been pulled up by the harrows.
Topping
As part of our paddock maintenance services, we offer paddock topping. We use a variety of mowers depending on the requirements. Topping, flail mowing and finishing mowing are the most popular. Paddock topping removes tall, tough grass that is not palatable to livestock and particularly horses and ponies. The ideal length for grazing animals is around 4 inches. Cutting weeds before they have time to go to seed, prevents them from germinating and spreading. Other advantages are it is a particularly good way of keeping ragwort, docks, buttercups and thistles in check. Regular paddock topping in the growing season will stimulate new growth in the ley and create a much thicker sward helping to prevent weed growth.
Flailing
Our dedicated team ensures the effective and precise maintenance of your hedges. Equipped with cutting-edge machinery and experienced operators, we employ efficient flailing techniques to manage hedges on your farm. Our precision ensures that your hedges remain in optimal condition without compromising their functionality. Our hedge cutter can be used for trimming hedges or for grass cutting on verges using a flail head which leaves a neat and tidy cut and mulches the residual cuttings back in to the hedge or sward. This machine is great at cutting back site boundary hedges, branches, verges, banked areas and vegetation. The machine has the capability of being able to change the flail head for a rotary blade head or saw blade for cutting larger and thicker hedge growth or for trimming back trees.
